Fiddling With Tradition

Later this March, The Lyric Theatre presents Visions from Cape Breton and Beyond: A Celtic Family Celebration starring Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy. In this new production, award-winning fiddlers MacMaster and Leahy explore their Celtic roots through song. The show, which incorporates song, dance, and fiddling, features professional dancers and singers from Cape Breton and Lakefield, Ontario as well as MacMaster and Leahy’s own children. Natalie MacMaster released her first album, Four on the Floor, at the age sixteen. She has received numerous awards over her artistic career, including the East Coast Music Association’s Artist of the Year award and an induction into the Order of Canada. Her husband, Donnell Leahy is the leader of the musical family group, Leahy. Leahy toured as the opening act for country singer Shania Twain’s “Come On Over” world tour and earned a number of Juno Awards for Best New Group, Best Instrumental Album, and more. Visions from Cape Breton and Beyond: A Celtic Family Celebration starring Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy comes to The Lyric Theatre on March 19th and March 20th at 7:00pm. Putting the Twang in Tenor
A Top Four finalist of America’s Got Talent arrives at The Lyric Theatre this March. The Texas Tenors combine country, Broadway, and classical styles in their performances, which feature both original songs and covers, including “My Way” by Frank Sinatra and “Mountain Music” by Alabama. The group, which became the highest ranking vocal group in America’s Got Talent history, was recently named Classical Crossover Group of the Year by Billboard. Originally from Branson, Missouri, The Texas Tenors feature country singer JC Fisher, pop vocalist Marcus Collins, and opera singer John Hagen. Their latest album, You Should Dream, was produced by the Academy Award and Grammy-nominated producer Nigel Wright. Featuring a 65-piece orchestra, You Should Dream was named as a Billboard Top 10 Album and has already sold 60,000 copies since its release in 2013. At The Lyric this March, the tenors will cover such songs as “Unchained Melody” and “Oh Shenandoah.” The Texas Tenors arrive at The Lyric Theatre on March 25th at 6:00pm and 8:30pm.
