John Loesser Receives Mayor's Award for Excellence!
STUART, FL (May 15, 2008) - John Loesser, Executive Director of the Lyric Theatre in Stuart, has received the Mayor’s Award for Excellence for his leadership and vision in turning the Lyric into a premier performing arts center. The award was presented by Stuart Mayor Jeffrey Krauskopf on behalf of the City Commission at the Commission meeting on May 12 at City Hall. Loesser is the first recipient to be honored with this award.
"The Lyric is the heartbeat of downtown Stuart, and John Loesser is the heartbeat of the Lyric," said Krauskopf. "The Lyric is the anchor of historic downtown Stuart and its diverse businesses."
Loesser joined the Lyric in 1999; that year, the theatre presented 20 shows. In the 2006-07 season, the performance slate had grown to 100 shows with over 300 performances. Loesser was also instrumental in the renovation of the Lyric, and the expansion of its stage area and backstage facilities.
"The Lyric is able to bring in larger acts and theatrical productions than would have been possible in the past," said Krauskopf. "As Executive Director, John has been instrumental in raising the bar by bringing in ‘name brand’ performers."
The Lyric Theatre is a historic, 500-seat venue that hosts a year-round slate of entertainment including concerts, theatrical productions and children’s programs. For ticket information, call (772) 286-7827 or purchase online at www.lyrictheatre.com. The Friends of the Lyric, Inc. operates the theatre as a not-for profit organization.
