PopOpera

The Lyric Theatre will host a unique international group of classically trained tenors and divas at the end of March when Bravo Amici arrives in Martin County. Part of the emerging genre of contemporary classic crossover music, Bravo Amici has sold a combined 3 million albums. The performers of Bravo Amici will sing classical and contemporary arias, combining pop, opera, and classical music. Bravo Amici was formed by the creators of the world’s first opera band, Amici Forever. Founder and original cast member of Amici Forever, Geoff Sewell, also stars in Bravo Amici. A tenor from New Zealand, a revolutionary in the pop and classical genres, Sewell is a multi-platinum-selling recording artist known as one of the creators of the world’s first “pop-opera” group. Sewell has continued to push boundaries in the music industry. Sewell and the rest of Bravo Amici will perform hits from pop, classical, and opera repertoires, combining all three genres for a style that is unique. Bravo Amici will perform at the Lyric Theatre on March 29 at 7:00pm. Tickets are available online at LyricTheatre.com or through The Lyric Box Office at (772) 286-7827.

Flautist Rooted in Latin Heritage

Grammy-winning jazz flautist Nestor Torres is returning to The Lyric with his brand new show “Havana and Buenos Aires,” exploring the music of Latin America. After attending the Mannes School of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music, Torres moved to Miami, playing with Latin dance artists including Ray Barretto, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz. Nestor has recorded 14 solo recordings, including Treasure of My Heart and My Latin Soul, which were nominated for Latin Grammys. His 2008 album, Nouveau Latino, was celebrated by critics as a return to the musician’s roots. Locally, Nestor developed the Nestor Torres Foundation, an organization designed to inspire social change through music, discussion, and education in the South Florida community. Leading up to his show at The Lyric, Mr. Torres will conduct a 3-day master class, presented by the Lyric Theatre and Arts Council of Martin County, with approximately 25 of the best high school musicians in Martin County. The invited participants will work with Mr. Torres in the classroom setting and some lucky students may be invited to participate in the performance of “Havana and Buenos Aires,” at The Lyric Theatre on March 31 at 7pm. Tickets are available online at LyricTheatre.com or through The Lyric Box Office at (772) 286-7827.
