Going “GREEN” … at The Lyric
In a proactive effort to go “GREEN”, The Lyric Theatre has been making conscientious decisions to conserve energy, reduce waste and use recycled products. Did you know that through this past season we have implemented a recycling program and switched to recycled paper products? In our mission to Go “GREEN”, other changes and upgrades include the lighting and air conditioning.
Twenty-four 1,000 watt stage lights have been replaced with twelve 36 watt LED lights, reducing the wattage from 24,000 to 864 watts. The installation of the LED lights is not only more energy efficient and saves on energy costs, but saves on manpower. The new LED lights, if left on for 8 hours every day, would not need to be replaced for 34 years. We are also in the process of changing all of the incandescent light bulbs to LED and compact florescent light bulbs, currently saving approximately 3,000 watts of power.
Three of our old air conditioning units have been replaced with high efficiency models and new programmable thermostats have been installed. The new thermostats have been programmed to lower the temperature during the day and to increase the temperature at night. The new thermostats have also helped to balance the temperature between the units, alleviating one system from working harder than another to compensate for temperature differences.
You may not have noticed these changes and upgrades during your last visit to The Lyric, but they are proving to be effective in both cost and energy savings. This is just the beginning in our commitment to protect the environment and our quest to Go “Green” … at The Lyric.
