Elvis starring Darrell Dunhill with Camille Terry as Marilyn Monroe
When Darrell Dunhill brings his Elvis tribute to the Lyric this year, he’s also bringing along a little something for the men in the audience: Marilyn Monroe. Camille Terry, who has perfected her personification of the timeless icon, will open for the “King,” in a tribute of her own featuring such songs as “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” and “Fever.” And if there’s a birthday in the house, you can count on a breathy rendition of “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”!
As for Elvis, he’s back and better than ever. And there’s always something new. “I put a different twist in the show every year,” says Dunhill. “It’s never the same show twice.”
What you can count on is Dunhill’s spot-on recreation of Elvis Presley through the decades, featuring authentic costumes (all of them exact remakes) and sound tracks that meticulously recreate the King’s original arrangements. His backing tapes feature the Jordanaires, the Sweet Inspirations and J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, who actually recorded and performed with Elvis back in the day.
You’ll hear plenty of well-known favorites, like “Jailhouse Rock,” “Hound Dog,” and “Love Me Tender,” but you’ll also hear the flip side of Elvis. “People don’t realize that Elvis recorded over 1,500 songs, and what a wide range he had,” says Dunhill. “I try to broaden their ‘Elvis horizon,’ so to speak.”
The show is very interactive, with Elvis traveling through the audience – even throughout the balcony! – and personally serenading a lucky lady or two. It’s a performance that is guaranteed to have you “All Shook Up”!
