Politics may feel divisive these days, but Capitol Steps always gets bi-partisan laughs in their topical, witty take on the American political scene. With 62 years of House and Senate staff experience and an award-winning collection of writers, Capitol Steps is the perfect way to unwind after a day of exhausting news. With a new administration come a brand new set of jokes, and the Capitol Steps troupe leaves no politician behind from Clinton to Trump, Putin and Obama.

A long-time NPR favorite, Capitol Steps was co-founded by Elaina Newport, Bill Strauss, and Jim Aidala. The group was formed in 1981 when a select group of Senate staffers were tasked with compiling a collection of song parodies for an upcoming Christmas party. The result was a hilarious hit, and the staff members decided to take their show on tour. Now, over thirty years later, Capitol Steps is still drawing audiences from all across the country with their combination of perfectly placed puns and knee-slapping impersonations. In addition to their stage performances, Capitol Steps appears twice a year on National Public Radio in Politics Takes a Holiday.

Capitol Steps has recorded over 35 albums since 1981, including their latest What to Expect when You're Electing. For their performance at The Lyric Theatre this year, the political troupe will draw from some of the latest headlines, whether it be "Putin on a Blitz" (instead of "Puttin' on the Ritz") or a rendition of the 1982 Pointer Sisters hit "I'm so Excited," featuring Hilary Clinton celebrating the outcome of her recent email scandal: "I'm not indicted and I'm so excited." Everyone will have something to giggle about when Capitol Steps comes to Stuart.
