Max and Ruby

Rosemary Wells’ Max is a rambunctious young bunny — he’s 4 — and Ruby, age 6, is his patient but no-nonsense sister. Wells, who’s both writer and illustrator of the “Max and Ruby” book series, took the inspiration for the sibling rabbits from the interaction of her two young daughters. She has said that she writes using animals because it allows her to address sophisticated, controversial topics in a way children can understand, and adults can accept. Every child can relate to mischevious Max or goal-oriented Ruby — despite their differences, they love and look out for one another. This production of “Max and Ruby” is based on the popular animated series of Wells’ book series. Max’s dialogue within each story is usually limited to just one word or a two-word phrase, which he repeats periodically — “Tow truck!” or “Jellyballs!” Ruby, who always has a project of her own, may scold her trouble-making kid brother, but in the end their stories are always connected by love — a lesson every child should learn.
