Lisa Loeb
GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb is best known for her number one hit, “Stay (I Missed You).”
Lisa Loeb was already making her mark in New York’s singer/songwriter scene when her friend and neighbor, actor Ethan Hawke, helped catapult her into the national consciousness. Hawke gave a tape of Loeb’s song “Stay (I Missed You)” to director Ben Stiller during the making of the 1994 film “Reality Bites.” Stiller agreed to use the song in the film, and “Stay” ultimately went on to become a number one hit. All this, and Loeb hadn’t yet been signed to a record label.
“‘Stay’ was a common situation told in a very direct way,” says Loeb. “The way it was produced really focuses the listener on the story, and I think that resonates with people. The timing and the story made an impression.”
Following “Stay,” Loeb again hit the top 20 with her songs “Do You Sleep?” and “I Do.” “Taffy” and “Waiting for Wednesday” also garnered significant airplay.
Prior to “Stay,” Loeb had years of experience under her guitar strap, writing and performing solo acoustic music with her band Nine Stories and as half of the duo Liz and Lisa. Following the success of her chart-topping debut, she embarked on a multi-dimensional career that now spans music, film, television, voice-over work and children’s recordings.
Loeb’s acclaimed studio CDs include her major label debut the gold-selling “Tails” and its follow-up GRAMMY Award-nominated “ Firecracker.” She has appeared on television in her own reality show on E! Entertainment and on “Dweezil and Lisa,” a weekly culinary adventure for the Food Network. You may also recognize her voice as that of Mary Jane Watson in MTV’s “Spider-Man: The New Animated Series.”
