The Lyric Theatre Presents
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie & Other Story Books
Eight winning and wonderful children’s stories come together in a show that the New York Daily News calls, “Altogether engaging – perfect for tots and perfect for adults!” If You Give a Mouse a Cookie & Other Story Books mixes traditional theater with pop and hip-hop music to create a performance that’s fun for the entire family.
Story books featured in the show include:
“If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” the tale of a boy who shares his snack with a hungry, demanding mouse and learns a hilarious lesson about cause and effect.
“Amazing Grace,” which follows young Grace as she attempts to break stereotypes in an effort to play the title character in her school’s production of “Peter Pan.”
“Borreguita and the Coyote,” a classic Mexican story of a little lamb who uses her wits to escape a hungry coyote.
“Imogene’s Antlers” follows Imogene, who is delighted to wake up with “cool” antlers, but soon discovers that her parents and high school principal do not share her enthusiasm.
“Martha Speaks,” the adventurous tale of a family dog who literally becomes “outspoken” after dining on alphabet soup!
“Master Man,” based on a Nigerian tall tale about a man whose muscles are as big as his ego. He earns his comeuppance when he claims to be the strongest man in the world.
“Math Curse,” which playfully addresses the phobia some kids have when tackling math problems.
“Owen,” the story of a boy who can’t bear to part with his beloved blanket, Fuzzy, as he prepares to start kindergarten. Thankfully, his mother devises a creative solution.
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie & Other Story Books is recommended for children ages four and up, and will be enjoyed by all “kids,” young and old. Variety calls the show “Sixty minutes of theatrical enchantment for kids, with enough intelligence and imagination to hold adults as well. This is not children’s theatre . . . this is pure theatre with a capital ‘I’ for imagination.”
