Starring Gregory Peck and Robert Duvall in his film debut, To Kill a Mockingbird is based on the beloved 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee. The film follows the story of Scout and Jem, raised in Maycomb, Alabama by their father and town lawyer Atticus Finch. A relentless optimist, Atticus teaches Scout and Jem to see the good in everyone. When a local judge appoints Atticus, played by Peck, to defend a black man against an accusation of assault on a white woman, Atticus must convince the jury, and the citizens of Maycomb, to set aside their prejudices. Widely regarded as one of the best films of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird won three Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor for Gregory Peck’s memorable performance as Atticus Finch. An enduring classic, To Kill a Mockingbird brings the imaginative and powerful words of Harper Lee to life, giving audiences a view of good and evil in 1930s America through the eyes of a precocious child.
