The New Christy Minstrels
In 1961, folk singer/songwriter Randy Sparks brought together ten of the leading folk musicians in Los Angeles to found The New Christy Minstrels, a group that was destined to become one of the best-known names in folk music. The Minstrels’ upbeat, rousing pop/folk style resulted in a long line of gold records and hits, including “Green, Green,” “This Land is Your Land,” “Denver” and “The Drinkin’ Gourd (The Muddy Road To Freedom).”
Today, The New Christy Minstrels are singing and playing better than ever. Under the direction of Randy Sparks, the group features original members Clarence Treat, Jackie Miller Davidson, Art Podell and Dolan Ellis, along with several talented newcomers.
