Garrick Ohlsson
Pianist Garrick Ohlsson has been recognized worldwide as a masterful interpreter of a wide range of repertoire. Ohlsson launched his career in 1970 with a spectacular Gold Medal performance at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. He was the first American to achieve this honor.
Although he has long been regarded as one of the world’s leading performers of Chopin’s music, Ohlsson commands an enormous repertoire, with over 80 concertos at his command. He has performed the works of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and Schubert, as well as compositions into the 21st century. He is an avid chamber musician, and has collaborated with the Cleveland, Emerson, Takács and Tokyo string quartets, among other ensembles. Ohlsson was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1994.
