The Lyric Theatre Presents

FOUR FRESHMEN

Their sound began over six decades ago, but it’s still as “fresh” as ever.  The Four Freshmen were one of the top vocal groups of the 1950s, their unique arrangements bridging the gap between 40s ensembles like the Mel-Tones and the harmony-based rock and roll bands of the 60s, such as the Beach Boys.  (Brian Wilson, in fact, credited the Four Freshmen in helping to inspire him in developing the Beach Boys’ sound.)

The multiple (six-time) GRAMMY Award-nominated Freshmen created beloved hits like “Mood Indigo,” “Day by Day,” “Graduation Day,” “Satin Doll,” “It’s a Blue World,” “Lullaby of Birdland” and many more.

Today’s Freshmen line-up features Brian Eichenberger on lead vocals and guitar, Curtis Calderon on second vocals and trumpet, Vince Johnson on third vocals and bass, and Bob Ferreira on fourth vocals and drums.  The current Freshmen have been honored several times as JazzTimes magazine’s Readers Poll Best Vocal Group and Down Beat magazine’s Readers Poll Best Vocal Group.

Together, they bring back the sounds of yesteryear as they continue the Four Freshmen’s rich, melodious musical tradition into the 21st century.
