When the Lyric League sent special invitations to friends, family and community members to come to the theater in Stuart last Wednesday evening, many guests said they were wondering, "What could this be?"

After a reception in the lobby of the Lyric Theatre, the big announcement was made: The Lryic League is now coed!

Niki Norton, Chair of the Lyric League, along with Lyric Theatre Executive Director Kia Fontaine and Director of Education/Operations Karin Leone took to the stage to describe the importance of the Lyric League, which previously was an all-female auxiliary board and is now opened up for men to join.

The league acts as an ambassadorial corps of volunteers, raising awareness in the community about the importance of arts for children and adults.

The arts educate, entertain and stimulate economic growth.

To attract young audiences to become involved with the Lyric Theatre, the league will spearhead an annual signature event as a key fundraiser.

The new event, another special announcement, is a vehicle to publicize and expand Lyric's Art and Education program, such as Discovery Series, Artists Residency, and the Lyric's Awesome Summer Camp.

The inaugural fundraiser is the "Battle of the Bands," where middle school and high school students will be selected to perform from YouTube video auditions.

More information about the Battle of the Bands is forthcoming. To learn more, please visit LyricTheatre.com.
