The Lyric Theatre Presents

Tommy Tune & The Manhattan Rhythm Kings

Tommy Tune got his first big break starring as Ambrose in the movie “Hello Dolly” with Barbra Streisand.  Yet much of his renown comes from his remarkable work on Broadway, including the Gershwin musical “My One and Only” (where he won Tonys for Best Actor in a Musical and Best Choreography) and “A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine” (his first Tony Award for Best Choreography).  Tune has received The National Medal of Arts, nine Tony Awards, eight Drama Desk Awards, the Drama League Award and the George Abbot Award for Lifetime Achievement.  Of his unique talents as director, choreographer, dancer, singer and actor, The New York Times proclaimed:  “Mr. Tune has reshuffled the elements of the old style musical into state of the art.”

The Manhattan Rhythm Kings are known for their polished performances of American popular music from the ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s.  Their close harmony singing, virtuoso instrumental work and spectacular tap dancing have earned them a large and enthusiastic following.  The Rhythm Kings have collaborated with Tune on several nostalgic song and dance revues, performing to standing ovations throughout the country.
