Stuart, FL—A non-partisan documentary that premiered at The 2008 Sundance Film Festival will be shown at The Lyric Theatre at 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The movie is being shown as a public service with no admission fee. Tickets are only available through the Lyric Theatre box office.
I.O.U.S.A examines America's current financial situation and explores ways to avoid a financial breakdown for the country. Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times called it "the most unexpectedly frightening film at Sundance."
The film follows former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker as he crisscrosses the country explaining America's unsustainable fiscal policies to its citizens. The film includes candid interviews with featured subjects including Warren Buffett, Alan Greenspan, Paul O'Neill, Robert Rubin, and Paul Volcker.
The film uses archival footage and economic date to paint a vivid and alarming profile  profile of America's current economic situation.  Sadly, the timing for this film is impeccable as the national debt clock in Times Square recently ran out of digits and the country is lurching through weeks of economic downturn and disaster.
Pointedly topical and consummately nonpartisan, I.O.U.S.A. drives home the message that the only time for America's financial future is now.
The film is being made available courtesy of The Peterson Foundation whose purpose is to educate Americans about the dangers inherent in our ballooning national debt and enormous unfunded long term liabilities.
Having premiered in August in only ten cities nationally, the film is being brought to Stuart by Martin County residents Jack and Ethel Christin, Bob and Jan Crandall, Bill and Audrey Crandall and Bud and Jackie Ogle. The four couples share a grave concern about the deepening debt problem, and hope the film will make more citizens aware of the need for prompt remedial action.
Interweaving archival footage and economic data, the film paints a vivid portrait of America’s current economic situation. Looking to the future, I.O.U.S.A. proposes various thought provoking approaches to solving the problem.
