The Lyric Theatre Presents
An Evening with Judy Collins
Few singers have the staying power of folk icon, Judy Collins. For nearly 45 years, her dulcet tones have graced our ears, and her poetic lyrics have galvanized multiple generations.
The classically trained Collins was drawn early in her career to the traditional songs of the folk revival of the 1960s, and her first recordings reflect her distinctive takes on important songs from the period, such as Pete Seeger’s “Turn, Turn, Turn” and Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.”
Ultimately, Collins would expand her repertoire to encompass what has become a signature mix of folk, pop, show tunes, rock and roll, standards and original compositions. She scored major hits with such varied fare as Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” and “Chelsea Morning,” and Stephen Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns,” from the Broadway musical “A Little Night Music.” Her rendition of the hymn “Amazing Grace” has become a classic.
Throughout her performances, Collins showcases not just her singular voice, but her virtuosity on piano and acoustic guitar. She effortlessly blends singing, reminiscence and reflection into a seamless flow of unsurpassed music and storytelling. You’ll want to be front and center to experience this living legend at the Lyric.
