For more than 550 episodes, Ben Bailey ran the only game show in a moving vehicle. Cash Cab, a quiz show that took place as Bailey’s cab drove contestants to their Manhattan destinations, won three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host. The show won four awards and appeared in TV Guide’s list of the 60 greatest game shows.
That Bailey managed to banter with the contestants and keep it funny, even as he had to kick them to the curb, was no accident. Long before he got behind the wheel of the Cash Cab, Bailey had performed at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, in clubs across New York City, and at major comedy festivals around the world, including The Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
By 2005, the New Jersey native had appeared in commercials on Fox’s MADtv and become a regular on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. He made appearances on HBO, NBC, Star Search, Last Call with Carson Daly, and The Late Show.
Bailey hosted Cash Cab from 2005-2012 and again from 2017-2019. He also hosted several other shows, including NBC’s Who’s Still Standing, Best in the Business, Discovery’s After the Catch, and NatGeo’s Brain Games. He starred in two specials for Comedy Central and released Road Rage and Accidental Ornithology in 2011 and Ben Bailey: Live and Uncensored in 2016.
Bailey has appeared on The Tonight Show, The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and virtually every major morning show on television and radio. He has appeared on 30 Rock, Blue Bloods, Parenthood, Law and Order SVU, Hope and Faith, and One Life to Live, as well as in films including Bad Parents, Don’t Shoot the Pharmacist and Bad Meat.
Bailey can be seen on Cash Cab in syndication, headlining with his stand-up comedy at clubs and theaters, or on his YouTube channel, Ben Bailey Comedy.
If you loved him in a cab, you’ll love him in person and the good news is that the meter won’t be running on funny.
