Catch a Rising Star at The Lyric
The original Catch A Rising Star Comedy Club opened in New York City in 1972 and was a key venue in launching the careers of an impressive roster of comedians, including Robin Williams, Billy Crystal and Jerry Seinfeld. Today, “Catch” continues to showcase rising comedic talent at its five club locations, and also takes these funny men – and women – on the road.
Their show at the Lyric will feature veteran stand-up Kevin Meaney, who has been one of the country’s most popular comedians for over 25 years. Meaney’s extensive credits include appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Oprah,” “Saturday Night Live” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” He also starred in the CBS sitcom “Uncle Buck,” and had a featured role in the movie “Big.”
Opening the evening is the famous – er, infamous? – Yankee Stadium beer man Steve Lazarus, who not only leaves fans laughing in the aisles at the ballpark but at comedy clubs across the country, as well. Lazarus says sometimes he feels like a well-endowed woman when he’s selling beer: “The straps dig into my shoulders, my back is always killing me, and all the guys, well . . . they just stare at my cups!”
Get ready for a double dose of laughter that will turn the Lyric into a real fun house!
