The Lyric Theatre Presents

Hilary Hahn

Two-time Grammy Award-winning soloist Hilary Hahn is celebrated worldwide for her probing interpretations, technical brilliance and compelling stage presence.  For a decade and a half, Hahn’s extensive tour schedule and acclaimed recordings have made her one of the most sought-after artists on the international concert circuit.

Performing around the globe with the world’s most elite orchestras, Hahn masters a diverse repertoire that includes Bach, Stravinsky, Elgar, Beethoven, Vaughan Williams, Mozart, Schoenberg, Paganini, Spohr, Barber, Bernstein, Korngold and more.  She has also expanded beyond the classical genre on such varying projects as partnering with folk-based singer/songwriter Josh Ritter and performing the violin solos on James Newton Howard’s Oscar-nominated soundtrack to M. Night Shyamalan’s film, “The Village.”

Hahn demonstrated her remarkable talent at a very young age.  She began playing the violin one month before her fourth birthday in the Suzuki program of the Peabody Conservatory.  While attending The Curtis Institute of Music (from age 10 to 17), she studied with the legendary Jascha Brodsky, the last surviving student of the great Belgian violinist Eugene Ysaye.  Hahn was also a prodigy in the performance realm, debuting with the Baltimore Symphony the year after she entered Curtis, and making her international debut in Hungary at age 14, performing with Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra.

Hahn’s eleven recordings to date have all spent weeks on Billboard’s Classical Top Ten, and earned her Grammys in 2009 and 2002 for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (with Orchestra).  Her appearance at the Lyric is a remarkable opportunity to experience the virtuoso violinist Time magazine has hailed as “America’s best young classical musician.”
