The Lyric Theatre Presents

THE MILES DAVIS EXPERIENCE

Rolling Stone called Miles Davis “the most revered jazz trumpeter of all time” and “one of the most important musicians of the 20th Century.” Now – for those of us who weren’t lucky enough to see him perform live – there’s The Miles Davis Experience.

This new multi-media musical production recaptures the historical and cultural context of this critical period of American sound through the lens of jazz music’s most iconic innovator.  The show is more than a concert:  It’s an immersive experience that gives Davis fans a chance to celebrate his music live, in a new way.  Davis’ jazz, performed live in the manner it was first presented, is set against a backdrop of vintage images from early concerts and recording sessions.

This tribute features Trumpeter/Composer/Arranger Jason Palmer who is becoming one of the most in demand jazz musicians of his generation.  He has worked with icons such as Roy Haynes, Jimmy Smith (the organist), Jack DeJohnette, Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Kurt Rosenwinkel (first trumpeter to ever be hired by this highly acclaimed guitarist), Ravi Coltrane, Geri Allen, Patrice Rushen, Mark Turner, Clarence Penn, Jeff Ballard, Kenny Barron, Phil Woods, Common (hip-hop icon), Roy Hargrove, Billy Pierce, etc.

The June 2007 issue of Downbeat Magazine cited Jason as one of the “Top 25 trumpeters of the Future”.  His debut recording entitled ongbook” (Ayva Musica), with Ravi Coltrane and Greg Osby garnered rave reviews upon its’ release and appeared on several “Best of 2008” lists including All Music Guide’s list for best jazz album.  His sophomore release entitled Nothing to Hide is was released in September of 2010 on SteepleChase Records.  Jason is currently a member of Grace Kelly’s Quintet, performing at major jazz festivals in Sicily, Austria, France, Germany, Finland, Croatia, Serbia, Bratislava, Canada, Poland, Portugal, Denmark, as well as numerous clubs and major jazz festivals in the U.S.  Jason was a member of Greg Osby’s quintet from 2004-2006 which performed at major jazz festivals in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, France, Malta, Netherlands, as well as two stints at the Village Vanguard in New York City.

The Miles Davis Experience tells the story of post-war America – its challenges and optimism, its civil rights struggle and historical milestones – through the creative cauldron of the jazz music that Davis pioneered.
